Industry Update: December 2018

SUPPLY UPDATE

Leading up to the season, the talk was all about salt shortages. This talk left distributors wondering if they are going to have enough salt to last all season.

To date, there hasn’t been any major news in terms of crippling supply issues here in the Midwest.  Retailers and distributors alike planned ahead, and the bagged-product pipeline is stable.  While we have no idea what Mother Nature has planned, rest assured that EC Grow has you covered.

A PARTNER YOU CAN DEPEND ON

Every year it seems that discussions are inevitably directed towards salt availability.  To ease ongoing supply concerns, EC Grow built a 25,000-ton bulk storage facility and now we are pleased to announce that our new 80,000 sq. ft. warehouse is up and running.

While the bulk storage facility has been in operation for two years, fully utilizing the storage created a new bottleneck, warehousing.  “We took an aggressive position on bulk salt this season” said Jon Lund the Ice Melt Sales Manager.  “With the new warehouse coming online in November, we’re excited to exercise the flexibility and responsiveness that the facility was intended to supply.”

The new warehouse is located on the same property as the bulk storage facility and can hold up to 14,000 ton of finished product.

STAY PREPARED

We are all aware of the challenges that have occurred in the freight industry this past year—and the holidays can lengthen lead times even more.  A two-day run can stretch out to 5 or 7 easily leaving your customers looking elsewhere for product.   Make sure you have plenty of stock to get you through this time of year by ordering early.

Be proactive and plan ahead.  This year is shaping up to be just like prior years.  Unpredictable.
